BENTONG: The Regent of Pahang Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah said that upholding the sanctity of Islam not only lay in the institution of the Malay rulers but was also the responsibility of all Muslims in the country.

" I hope my presence at each Islamic activity will convey the message to the people of Pahang on the importance of unity.

"I do not want Pahang to descend into chaos, Muslims divided, which will not reflect what Islam stands for,” he said when opening the 61st state-level   Quran recital assembly at Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah here last night.

He added that the assembly served as a reminder to Muslims in the state to avoid conflicts so that they could attain greater progress.
