Counsel, Not Expel Problematic Students - Negeri Sembilan MB

SEREMBAN -- Problematic students should be counselled rather than expelled, according to Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

He said the issues faced by such students should be resolved internally by the schools, and the students allowed to continue with their studies.

“Throwing them into the wilderness of the world is not a solution but will contribute to more serious social issues.

"Because we (teachers) do not know in depth about their family background, we cannot really tell why the students have disciplinary problems.

"In Negeri Sembilan we have a programme called EMAS or ‘Engkau Masih Ada Yang Sayang’, which is sponsored by the state government for such students,” he said at a dinner in conjunction with the 57th Perak Malaysian School Principals Council (MPSM) Administrative Conference held here last night.

Also present were Education Deputy Minister Datuk Chong Sin Woon, Education director general Datuk Dr Amin Senin and MPSM head Ibrahim Mat Diah.

Mohamad noted that students who participated in the programme had shown improvement in terms of more orderly behaviour.
