IKN Has Produced 2,485 Local Craft Graduates

KUALA LUMPUR -- The National Craft Institute (IKN) has  produced 2,485 diploma and certificate holders in the field of local craft since its inception in 2001.

IKN senior director Zainal Abidin Che Pa said out of the total, 83 per cent or 2,070 of IKN graduates were directly involved in the craft industry in various capacities.

"Learning sessions at IKN emphasise more on skills, rather then theory, so IKN graduates on the whole are skilled in crafts, and it’s something which is not taught anywhere else in the country," he said during the Nine11 programme aired on Bernama News Channel today.

According to Zainal, IKN only opened up 174 places for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) leavers for the intake in July.

"The tuition fee is only RM450 for the three-year Diploma Programme and RM300 for the Certificate Programme which involved a two-year study period.

"Students who are interested to join IKN can take the certificate or diploma course in six fields, namely Batik Craft; Weaving Craft; Wood Craft; Metal Craft; Ceramic Craft; and Rattan Craft," he said.
