Zaid Ibrahim
The Barisan Nasional has pulled out all the stops in their effort to show that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is immoral and a sexual pervert. Last night TV3 featured Datuk S Nallakaruppan and Umi Hafilda Ali relating – again and again – the story of Anwar’s alleged sexual tryst with Shamshida, the wife of PKR deputy president Azmin Ali. The interview featured explicit statements about oral sex (or as Nalla called it, “ice cream”), all during prime time. We can probably expect a video of the act on the air waves very soon.
I view this latest salvo by TV3 as totally shameless and unwarranted and I appeal to the Prime Minister to put a stop to it. It’s not just adults who watch TV3 but their children and grandchildren too – they should be spared the graphic and sordid details of pornography. I think enough has already been said about Anwar’s sexual adventures. In trying to destroy him, you might destroy the moral fabric of the entire nation.
The Prime Minister also fails in the moral barometer test. He has yet to explain the many allegations about him: about corruption, about how his wife has acquired so much wealth, about the unexplained death of Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu and about the allegations of a former member of his security detail, Sirul who alleged that he had killed many others under orders of his superior. Not a word from the government that these serious allegations should be investigated.
Like Anwar, Datuk Seri Najib Razak has simply ignored these allegations without making any effort to be upfront with the people. He too has failed the integrity test; although different, the failings in the character of both leaders are just as appalling.
So let us spare the rakyat from having to endure the grime on TV3 every other day. Let’s keep the people sane. Let’s keep our children away from the trash and from having to listen to these leaders. Call the election now. There is no reason to delay it any further. This way at least, the people will be given the chance to eliminate either Najib or Anwar – or both. We do not have to endure leaders who are grossly immoral or plainly corrupt. There are others who can govern this country.
