The number of H1N1 influenza cases reported in the northern hemisphere lately is rising which indicate the virus second wave may have reach its peak.
There had been almost a doubling in the number of H1N1 cases last week in northern United States, western Canada, Europe, eastern Mediterranean and Mongolia compared to the previous week.
The combined number of cases in these areas last week totaled 75,000.
The development is a reminder for all countries to be on alert for a possible second wave of the killer flu, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He said the death toll from H1N1 in the country remained at 77 while the total number of cases reported in Malaysia remains at 12,210.
Some 6,617 front liners personnel had been vaccinated as one of the precaution effort.
He said although the situation in Southeast Asia is still stable, we should not take the prevention effort lightly.
In United States, Federal Health officials report that across the nation, the level of flu activity related to the H1N1 virus has dropped for the fourth week in a row which indicates the second wave of the pandemic in the United States has peaked.

The officials warned even the slope curve was going downward, the number of people getting infected with the H1N1 virus remains high, and cases could surge again.
It is advised to all Malaysians who are planning to travel to northern hemisphere to take all necessaries precaution to minimize the risk of the pandemic.
The most important precaution strategy for travellers is that they should get the latest development of the virus at the place that they are heading to.
Travellers must also declare to the local authorities if they are feeling sick.
For those who are not travelling, the usual prevention effort such as wearing mask, keep a good hygiene, and reporting to medical practitioners if they had fever should not be stopped at all.
However, the public must stay calm and never panic while facing the virus’s second wave because the panicky condition will be more destructive than the virus itself.
