If the debate between MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng were to be viewed from the angle of "Whose Policy Benefits Chinese the Most", no one could deny that Lim won on so many levels.
However, if the motion of the debate was "Whose Policy Benefited the Rakyat”, many would argue that Chua did a better job.
Lim could have been the winner. But his policies might not be implemented because only one race would benefit from it while other races might be left on the sidelines. This could lead to instability, which could lead to something worse. Statements made by the Penang chief minister were chauvinistic and racist. This attitude can be seen when Lim said, "Do not forget that the Chinese pay more tax in Malaysia."
It is very clear that DAP feels the Chinese should run the country because they pay the most tax. But ironically, this only proves that the Chinese became rich and live in luxury in Malaysia under the leadership of Barisan Nasional.
Chua then expounded on this fact by giving examples of how the DAP does not have Indian state chiefs and not one DAP parliamentary or state seat is held by a Malay.
What is certain is that Lim will never be able to lead Malaysia to great success. With all arguments centering on Chinese interest alone, Lim proved that DAP is a party only for the Chinese, not for other races.
The 'party for all races' slogan which Lim promotes only covers a few Malay and Indian individuals who follow everything they say.
One wonders, what are PKR and PAS' stand on the matter? Are they comfortable with being controlled like puppets? What would happen to Malays and Indians if Pakatan Rakyat rule with DAP as the leader, PKR as their puppet and PAS as their slave?
Unlike the cooperation between Umno, MCA and MIC where bond and respect is their main formula for harmony, Pakatan Rakyat is a clearly a marriage of convenience bonded by the goal to attain central power.
The question which we should all be asking is: Would pleasing all Chinese at the expense of hurting other races produce a better Malaysia?
