Cesc-Fabregas098MADRID: Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova highlighted the role midfielder Cesc Fabregas (pic) played in their 4-1 demolition of Getafe at Coliseum Alfonso Perez this morning, praising the former Arsenal captain's performance.

The 25-year-old Fabregas has reportedly has been at odds over his stance regarding remarks made towards the tactics employed by former boss Josep 'Pep' Guardiola, with sources claiming an exit from Nou Camp was a possibility.

However, based on the playmaker's performances this morning, everything seems to be fine and good with the club's La Masia youth product, after his displays in the center wore his opponents thin, according to Vilanova.

Fabregas started the match which saw attackers Andres Iniesta and Alexis Sanchez being ruled out because of injuries.

Superstar Lionel Messi, who had just returned from Argentina for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, also started on the bench.

"We came out very well from the beginning, and controlled the game at all times. We might even have scored one more," said Vilanova.

"Fabregas showed great gusto and played very well.

"It's really not surprising though, given how well he has trained recently. He enjoyed a really great match alongside Xavi."

David Villa, who came off the bench to score, lent his voice in unison to his manager.

"Fabregas was euphoric after the game. I suppose that's why he had that grin on his face," the Spain international told Radio Catalunya.

"We have a very versatile tactical set-up, with players who can feature in many positions," said defender Gerard Pique to Canal Plus.

"We may employ different schemes, but always with the same philosophy, to dominate."

The latest Primera Liga success ensures Barca head off to begin their Champions League campaign on the right note, something Xavi was eager to highlight.

"We face the Champions League with high hopes and eagerness. We'll be playing the game with the intention to win," he said.

Meanwhile, defender Carles Puyol's injury proved to be the only sour note this morning, with the Barca captain joining a lengthy injury list including Iniesta, Sanchez and Jordi Alba.

"We'll see how bad it is when we conduct more tests tomorrow," said Vilanova. "He is an important player, and hope he can be back soon."

The 34-year-old is believed to have strained knee ligaments, with an initial prognosis suggesting the recovery period could be as long as six weeks.

Messi, who came on after the break, scored two of the goals this morning. The first was from a penalty in the 74th minute with the second four minutes later.

Adriano had given the Catalans the lead in 32nd minute with Villa struck the other in stoppage time.

Getafe's replied through an own goal by Javier Mascherano in the 80th minute.
