KUALA LUMPUR, 21 FEBRUARY, 2012: The event promoter for the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship, Safe Aim Mutual Sdn Bhd (SAM) has issued a new regulation for the 2012 season onwards, riders competing in the championship must use Federation of International Motorcycle (FIM) certified helmets.
The new regulation takes effect immediately and is compulsory for all riders competing in the CP130, CP115, Wira, Privateer, Yamaha 135 Super Series, Honda Wave Junior Challenge and Suzuki Belang Challenge.
In past seasons, however, this rule applied only to riders taking part in the CP130/ Expert and CP115/Novice category so as to reduce costs for the other classes.
SAM Promotions Director, Ron Hogg described the new regulation as relevant considering there were a lot of local manufacturers producing helmets meeting FIM standards and furthermore this move would ultimately increase the Cub Prix's professionalism.
"This season, riders must use FIM approved helmets before they are allowed on to the track. We are doing this now because today we have a lot more local suppliers producing FIM standard helmets compared to previous years where such helmets are imported. To name a few we have X-Dot, KHI, MHR and many more," he said in a statement, today.
For the riders' benefit, a full list of vendors with available stock of FIM approved helmets will be released soon on the Championship's website, www.malaysiancubprix.com
