Roberto_MartinezLONDON: Roberto Martinez will fly to Boston on Thursday for face-to-face talks with Liverpool's principle owner John Henry about becoming the Reds new manager.

Martinez (pic) is understood to have met the club's hierarchy in England over the weekend to discuss the vacant position at Anfield.

The Wigan manager is Henry's preferred choice to succeed Kenny Dalglish and will jet to the United States later this week for a meeting with the Fenway Sports Group chief.

Henry is keen to assess Martinez in person and feels his ticks all the right boxes to become the next Liverpool manager.

The Ameican is pressing ahead with Martinez even though the Spaniard has little support among the fans who want to see Rafael Benitez return.

Despite Martinez's talks with Liverpool, he  is not guaranteed to get the job and the Reds still have other names on their shortlist but he will be the first one to be seen personally by Henry.
