KUALA LUMPUR -- Global energy giant Total have extended their partnership with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) for another three years (until 2021).
The agreement will see the French-based oil and gas company remain as the official partner for three major tournaments under BWF's sanction - the Sudirman Cup mixed team badminton championships, Thomas and Uber Cup Finals and the World Badminton Championship.
BWF president Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen said the world badminton governing body was delighted to extend the partnership with Total for the another three years.
"Such continuity augurs well for our major events brand and we look forward to another three years of mutual success and development as we build badminton together,” he said in a statement today.
Their initial landmark multi-million-dollar agreement ends next year.
Francois Dehodencq, senior vice president of Total Marketing and Services for Asia Pacific and the Middle East, echoed Larsen's sentiment, saying badminton has become an important corporate social responsibility endeavour for the company.
"The company is committed to working collaboratively with BWF to inject more energy to the sport and providing strong support in promoting the events to its global audiences," he said.
The partnership extension follows BWF’s announcement of host cities for its major events in 2018 and 2019 after the BWF Council meeting here on Saturday.
