KUALA LUMPUR -- Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin urged the corporate sector to play an important role in the development of sports to fulfill the aspiration of the nation to become a leader in sports.
Khairy said the corporate sector had the space and platform needed to fulfill the agenda of the nation to ensure more people are actively involved in sports activities and lead a healthy lifestyle.
"Our efforts to ensure the success of the agenda become a reality, we need the support and cooperation of the corporate sector. They (corporate sector) need to work together to fulfill the aspiration," he told reporters when launching Bina Darulaman Berhad's (BDB) Triple Challenge 2017, here today.
Khairy said lack of sports activities or recreational activities can lead to various diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and heart diseases.
Meanwhile, BDB Group managing director Datuk Izham Yusoff said the second edition of the BDB Triple Challenge would serve a new challenge to participants, unlike the inaugural edition last year.
"By changing the marathon to water rafting this year, participants can expect a new challenge. BDB Triple Challenge is also an effort to expose popular tourist spots as well as promote Kedah as a tourist destination through sports," he said.
The BDB Climb and Run Langkawi is scheduled on April 22, followed by BDB Extreme Jitra on Sept 23 Sept while the BDB Rafting Kulim at Sungai Sedim is on Nov 18, while those taking part in all three events would receive a special award from the organisers.
