Cristiano Ronaldo Sets New Champions League Record Against Borussia Dortmund

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first ever player to score on all six matchdays of a Champions League group stage campaign after netting against Borussia Dortmund.

Although something of a dead rubber for Real – they are already guaranteed to finish as runners-up in Group H – Wednesday’s game presented Ronaldo with an opportunity to get one over on rival Lionel Messi.

No previous player has scored in all six group games, but it took Ronaldo just 12 minutes to net against Dortmund, and it was one to remember for numerous reasons.

He received the ball on the edge of the box, looked up and curled a magnificent effort into the top corner, giving Roman Burki no chance.

The Portuguese superstar was already the leading scorer in this year’s Champions League campaign with eight goals, but he has extended his lead further thanks to his exploits on Wednesday.

Ironically, it is not Ronaldo’s most prolific performance in the group stage, with his record still standing at 11 goals, set in the 2015/16 season.

Of course, if the floodgates open against Dortmund, he could still match or better that record.

Back when he set that record, Ronaldo blanked home and away against Paris Saint-Germain, while Messi bagged 10 group-stage goals despite missing one match (a win over Gladbach) with a groin injury in 2016/17.
