LONDON: Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers wants to make Barcelona winger Cristian Tello the third new sigining of his Anfield reign, The Sun reported.

Rodgers has splashed out £25million to take striker Fabio Borini and midfielder Joe Allen to Merseyside.

Now aims to make it a hattrick with Tello.

Tello, 21, has failed to hold down a regular slot at Nou Camp after coming through the ranks. And with triker David Villa fit again after a broken leg, his options will be even more limited.

A season-long loan with the promise of a transfer at the end of it is the likeliest deal to bring Tello to Merseyside, with 12 months remaining on his contract.

But the fact there has also been interest from Arsenal, Malaga, Benfica and Ajax could force Rodgers into a permanent deal, which would cost around £5m.

Tello, who only made the breakthrough into the first team as a regular sub last season, has a reputation for pace and being direct.

The fact he can also play on either flank in a front three, the attacking style Rodgers is implementing at Anfield, also makes him highly attractive to the manager.

Liverpool could make it a double raid on Spain, as they are also closing in on Real Madrid’s versatile Nuri Sahin.

The Turkish midfielder has never come close to living up to the reputation he took to the Bernabeu when he moved from Borussia Dortmund 12 months ago.

And although featuring regularly on Real’s pre-season trip to the USA, manager Jose Mourinho is prepared to let him go.

Arsenal and Tottenham have both shown an interest, but the fact Rodgers has a good relationship with Mourinho from their time together at Chelsea could swing another season-long loan Liverpool’s way.
