TASEK GELUGOR: Farmers in North Seberang Prai are expected to enjoy an increase in income of 60-70 percent by 2020 through the input of the federal government and use of technology.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said the federal government's effort was towards achieving padi production of eight tonnes per hectare by 2020 from the present 5.6 tonnes per hectare.

"The use of technology is important in agriculture. With technology, we target an output of eight tonnes a hectare by 2020 which will also boost the farmers' income by 60-70 per cent," he said.

Nor Mohamed, who is also Tasik Gelugur Member of Parliament, said the use of technology and expansion of planting areas could boost the income of the farmers to at least RM3,000 from RM1,800 now.

He was speaking to reporters after attending the Tasik Gelugur Agriculture development council meeting at the Pokok Sena Area Farmers Organisation Authority here, today.
