Flood Trap More Than 100 People in Xinjiang Since Thursday | Print |

URUMQI, 30 JULY, 2010: Mountain torrents have trapped more than 100 residents and tourists in a remote valley since 2pm Thursday, after heavy rains hit northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, reports China's Xinhua news agency on Friday.

Despite difficult traffic conditions, search and rescue team managed to reach the site in Kuche County of Aksu at 1.26a.m on Friday.

However, it is still unclear whether the floods had caused any casualties.

Xinhua reported that the floods have inundated many roads and cut off telecommunications in the area, causing difficulties for the rescue efforts.

The rescue headquarters is ready to launch the rescue campaign despite continuing rain and is arranging how many people will need to be evacuated from the area.
