Vietnam Ready For APEC Economic Leaders’ Week

HANOI, Oct 13 -- Vietnam is ready for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, scheduled to take place in the central coastal city of Da Nang from Nov 6 to 11, Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam, Deputy Minister of Public Security said in a recent media interview, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.

He said preparations for the APEC Year 2017 especially the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week have been carried out thoroughly since mid-2015 with the establishment of the APEC 2017 National Committee and the APEC 2017 National Secretariat.

The APEC 2017 Security and Order Subcommittee, established by the Ministry of Public Security in May 2016, has worked with other subcommittees in the APEC 2017 National Committee to ensure security for the various APEC-related conferences and metings.

Established in 1989, APEC comprises 21 economies namely Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, United States and Vietnam.

APEC represents about 39 per cent of the world’s population and contributes 57 per cent to global gross domestic product (GDP) and 49 per cent of international trade.

Vietnam joined APEC in 1998 and is hosting APEC events in 2017 under the theme “Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future”.
